Friends of Oakfield School

Oakfield is fortunate to have a very active parents’ association, of which all parents, grandparents, relatives and guardians of pupils past and present are automatically members.

Friends of Oakfield School, or F.O.O.S, aims to create a strong Oakfield community by organising social activities and fundraising events to provide funds for non-curricular resources, for the benefit of current and future pupils.

In recent years, money raised by F.O.O.S. has helped with major projects such as the refurbishment of the library, re-surfacing the tennis courts and paying for the landscaping of the frontage. In addition, F.O.O.S. has traditionally contributed towards those events and activities that make Oakfield so special, but that are a significant investment for such a small school, such as Performing Arts Week.

Recent F.O.O.S. events

On Friday 5th October F.O.O.S held its ever-popular quiz night, along with a traditional East End supper kindly donated by Mrs Boughton. Large quantities of wine flowed, helping to lubricate the grey matter and ensuring a close-fought contest. In the end, the teachers’ team lost by just half a point, to a table comprising parents from Early Years and Year 1, while reigning champions The Cephalapods were soundly beaten for the first time in three years! A great evening was had by all, with over £800 raised for F.O.O.S.

The F.O.O.S. AGM took place on Thursday 11th October, and minutes will be available soon. Mrs Oborne presented the accounts, and Mr Mahne presented the proposed changes to the constitution, in addition to planned expenditure for the next twelve months. He also thanked Mrs Susan Gale, who is stepping down as Events Co-ordinator after two very busy years and a great deal of hard work. Mrs Gale said how much she had enjoyed her time on the committee, and promised to support Mrs Boughton in her new role.
