Starting in Nursery, we endeavour to ensure an excellent command of standard spoken English and an ability to write neatly and concisely so as to communicate well with other people. We encourage an enjoyment of reading and mathematical quests, mental arithmetic and scientific curiosity through practical lessons with a focus on experimentation and discovery. We believe passionately that providing a high-quality education to children between the ages of three and seven not only creates happy, confident individuals, but instils in them a love of learning that will last throughout their school life.
Curriculum plans are shared every half term so that parents know which topics we are covering in School, and are more able to support the children’s learning at home. All our activities are based around the areas of learning recommended by the Government’s Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 curriculum guidance, and delivered on a 48-month rotational cycle. Quite simply, this means that each child benefits from a curriculum designed to start at the age of three, progressing through each topic of each subject until they turn seven. In this way topics are always new and exciting to each child.
Each week these areas are covered both inside and outside the classroom through a variety of carefully planned adult and child-directed activities. However, we extend these activities in order to enhance the basic curriculum: music, gymnastics and dance are taught from Nursery, while Reception children begin to learn French. Sports activities for Year 2 children are extended as they join Years 3 to 5 for swimming at Woking’s Pool in the Park on Wednesday afternoons.
