Admissions - Joining Oakfield

Children usually join Oakfield Pre-Preparatory School the term after their third birthday, and remain in the Nursery until the year in which they turn four, when they will move into the Reception class as full-time pupils.

We have a further intake of girls in Year 3, after our boys leave us at the end of the Pre-Preparatory stage, usually to join local prep schools, with whom we have long standing arrangements.

Our classes increase to a maximum of twenty in the upper part of the school, therefore we are able to offer four further places at entry to Year 7 to children who have completed their primary school education elsewhere. Children are not required to take an entrance examination at any stage.

After a visit to the school we recommend a meeting with the Principal to discuss the suitability of Oakfield for your child, and the availability of places. It is also recommended that a child’s name is added to the waiting list at least one year before entry, and to ensure a place in Nursery we advise that the child should be registered 18 months beforehand.

Prospective pupils are invited to spend one or two days with us so that they can get to know their peers, and we can make an informal assessment of their academic ability to ensure that we are able to meet their needs. Following this, a reference is taken from the Head of the previous school. Pupils joining the Nursery are invited to spend a morning with us, along with their mother/father, usually one month before joining.

Once a place has been offered, a £350 registration fee is payable, to secure the place until the child joins the school.
